To be perfectly 100% honest, prior to devoting countless hours to astrology, I never knew that astrology and the elements had anything to do with one another. This was all stuff that I figured was new-age woo stuff. To be perfectly honest, I have a very cynical part that is very reluctant to jump on any sort of “woo” bandwagon (believe it or not!).
When I first found out we were moving to Okinawa, I’ve gotta say…a part of me freaked out a little. I’m from New Mexico where it’s DRY. I then packed up my kids and moved to Germany where it, too, was landlocked. Then all of a sudden we were preparing to move to a tiny island in the South Pacific.
It was totally weird. The thing that freaked me out the most was that we were moving to a place that was surrounded by water.
To be honest, all of the water totally intimidated me!
I mean, sure…I’m always up for an adventure. But goodness…this map made it look like we were going to be swallowed up by a tidal wave or something!
It took some deep breathing to allow the truth of what was going on to sink in. On an energetic level, I felt that my nervous system was already being swallowed by the water. How was I going to get used to this element? How would I be able to integrate this new environment into the life that I had come to know?
What I found was that the island embraced me. I noticed that the power of the water on the island had permeated the culture here throughout the years. The Ryukyu people had developed a beautiful relationship with the water with all of its moods.
It was awe-inspiring.
As a result, I developed a fondness for this element that had been so foreign to me for so long. From living in a place where its presence was scarce to an environment where it is extremely abundant. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to experience such polarity in elemental form.

Astrology and the Elements: the Fundamental Building Blocks of Understanding Our World…
The ancient elements make up some of the fundamental building blocks of understanding of our world. In astrology, each sign falls under either Earth, Air, Fire, or Water. The personality characteristics that have been assigned to each of these elements can be incredibly revealing and have such great potential for manifestation and healing.
In an effort to explore and get to know my own personal understanding of the Elements, I decided to put together a little astrology and intuitive art workshop for you called Painting with the Elements.
